It Took Love is a poem of faith inspired by the love of Jesus in being willing to give up all the glory and praise of heaven knowing that he was going to face a thankless mob so that He might save us. As I pondered all that he endured on my behalf, I could not help but wonder at the intensity of love that would cause the king of the universe to step down from His throne and endure mocking and stripes.
That He, who received the adoration of millions of angels and an untold number of unfallen worlds, would willingly humble himself and endure the unbridled hatred of those who chaffed at his goodness and who despised his compassion amazed me. As I thought of how he was laughed at, hunted down, beaten, bruised, and nailed to a cross for my sin, I asked myself if I were in his shoes, would I have been willingly to endure so much? Would I have given up the glittering gates and songs of praise knowing that I must endure poverty and innuendo?
The more I pondered, the more I was taken back with the amount of love that inspired the sacrifice of Jesus who though all the splendid glories of the universe were his to enjoy, he could not imagine a universe with me or you. And with a heart full and overflowing with a love I cannot comprehend and that a lifetime of imagination can but faintly grasp, He chose to risk all so that I and the rest of the world might have a chance to enjoy the glories and wonders of an eternal life free from the miserable chains of sin.
Inspired by the amazing depths of love, this simple poem was born. I hope that you enjoy it, and that you too are inspired to step back and consider the amount of love it took for Christ to come and save us from our sins.
